History
OUR HISTORY
A group of breast cancer survivors who experienced firsthand the gap that exists for survivors and their families came together in 2011 to establish Angels Surviving Cancer, Inc. (“Angels”).
Angels, a 501c3 nonprofit organization in the Houston metropolitan area. A group of dedicated women made the courageous decision to decide to take the responsibility to become advocates whose mission is to Enlighten, Empower, Encourage and Educate and address the real needs for those affected by breast cancer.
Angels has grown from 25 members to 150 members, which includes Guardian Angels and Friends of Angels, all under the leadership, guidance, and direction of our visionary awesome Executive Director, Janice E. Workcuff, a 37-year survivor. We wanted to be different than any other breast cancer support group by having a special Angel touch and being true advocates. Instead of using a clinical trial, Angels committed to a grassroot effort that gives personal attention and provides care for both the patients and their families.
As Angels continued its progress of growth, Lanita “Pearl” Burton, CHW, was hired in 2023 as Angels’ first employee. She serves as Executive Assistant to our illustrious Executive Director, Janice E. Workcuff. Pearl assists with the daily operations and oversees the coordination in serving patients and the breast cancer community.
