A Woman that Cares

For the last fourteen years, Janice has served as Executive Director with Angels Surviving Cancer, Inc., a non- profit 501c3 breast cancer survivors’ organization. Angels seek to encourage, empower, and educate the community of the importance of assisting those who are undergoing treatment and beyond by addressing the entire spectrum of needs through advocacy, financial, emotional, and spiritual support.

Janice is highly respected as an overcomer, warrior, survivor, thriver, and humble leader, creating noticeable interest among women to join the fight against breast cancer.

Her Passion

Janice frequently attends educational classes, webinars, and conferences to remain current on the latest advances in breast health and breast cancer. These practices are crucial as she offers support and hope to women who are experiencing breast cancer by connecting them with resources and medical professionals to help them understand their diagnosis.

She truly stands in the gap by going to survivor’s homes, explaining their
pathology reports and all the information the physician has given them for their journey through treatments. She continuously and tirelessly offers support and hope at the bedside of women who are experiencing breast cancer giving them direction to leading to a better quality of life and productive living. She is also a Peer Counselor.

Janice and her husband are active members of New Faith Church, under the leadership of Dr. Andre Lewis.  She serves in the marriage, prayer, health, and Jewels Women’s Ministries. She worked in the medical field for 35 yrs. She is now a retired Registered Cardiac Sonographer.

She is involved with many prominent organizations, including the American Cancer Society, The Rose, MD Anderson Cancer Center Network program, Celebrating Life Foundation, and Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. In 2004, Janice published her first book, Road to Restoration: Walking on by Faith.

Her Strength

She is involved with many major organizations, including the American Cancer Society, MD Anderson Cancer Center Network program, Celebrating Life 2 Foundation and the Susan Komen Foundation whose goal is to raise funds and wage war against this disease.

She served as Sisters Network Inc. Houston Chapter President for several years, Janice participates in the “Race for the Cure walk” each year. She has been featured in the Houston Chronicle, various television and radio shows, and has received numerous awards for her work in
making a difference in the healthcare community.

  • In 2023, Janice was recognized in Las Vegas, Nevada at the National Consortium of Breast Centers 32nd Annual Interdisciplinary Breast Center Conference among other breast cancer survivors in a life size photo gallery display
  • In 2022 Janice was selected as an honoree of Champions of Real Excellence Most Influential Blacks today. She was also featured in Winners of the World Global Magazine.
  • In 2021 she was featured in CORE magazine
  • In 2019 she was featured in Breast Cancer Wellness
  • In 2018 she was honored with the Health Award by Houston Women of Professional Business Women, Beauty Beyond Breast Cancer and She’s Happy Hair
  • In 2017 her organization was listed as a national minority initiative in recognition of your commitment and contribution to reducing cancer health disparities in the African American Community
  • In 2015 she received the Celebration of Life Foundation Community Partnership Award
  • In 2014 she received special contribution Award from Caribbean. She also received a Breast Cancer Group Award and Proclamation from Missouri City, Texas City Council for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Lastly, she received the Health Education Leadership Programs Help Magazine Outstanding Community Service Award.
  • In 2013 she received the Transformation and Triumph Community Outreach award from Celebrating Life Foundation
She published a book in 2004 entitled, Road to Restoration “Walking on by faith” so that more women and men will be able to reach more people with HOPE. In 2023 she published the Journal Road to Restoration to continue to give guidance and direction.
